Oh Sherry...

She's new to my streets but says she lives on them, up near 34th, sleeping on the trains at night. Yet almost everyday for the last few weeks I've seen her walking quickly with all her babies in tow, sometimes up to eight of them! I'm not sure if she thinks they are real or not but she does love having them with her. She told me she fed one of them but then mentioned that a guy gives her these dolls, so it's a toss up. Either way, this is my hood.

Jack Vanasco

Meeting more of the history in the hood. Jack and his brother have run this appliance repair shop on Myrtle for a long time, to say the least. Their tagline says it all, "house of a million parts". There are also flags and memories on all walls. Minutes later the scrapbooks were out, pictures of him as a kid, the Veterans Memorial downtown, the neighborhood, friends, etc. I stopped to capture a flag and in return got a history lesson. Smile. If you ever need a small flag, yes, he's got those too, just a buck!

Myrtle Ave Collapse

I was outside on the terrace when I saw a big puff of white dust/smoke. Then the sirens. By the time I got there the whole building had collapsed. Thankfully no one was seriously injured! She was on the 3rd floor when it happened. Pretty shaken up but was able to notice that her bathroom mirror was still there, not even broken.

Holidays on Ice

Nothing like the first snow, rain, ice, more snow and a manhole explosion to keep it festive.

I've always noticed all the memorials that pop-up around the city, only recently have I photographed them. I'm surprised at how long some of them have been tended to.

Jesse Tompkins - 08/05/2008, who was just jogging peacefully down the street when he was hit by a car on Myrtle Ave.

08/04/2008 - I've heard rumors about what happened at this corner last week, but I do not know more then his family misses him. There were a lot of tears and music, when they were done they took the memorial with them.
Markita Weaver - 03/09/2005 she was hit by a sanitation truck while playing in a snow bank...

10/04/2006 - Red Hook

This was also in Red Hook, not sure if it was a memorial or just recycling...
