Family Traditions

Every family has their traditions and mine is no different. Christmas time brings us together where we toast the year with a shot or too many of Yagermeister. Gather around, lift them up! But before the Yager there were the Cherries. No one is positive how old they are but they always appeared for the holidays - a glass jar filled with cherries soaking in Everclear. I don't think we have seen them since my Uncle passed, yet every year as the Yager shots came out the cherries were always discussed with great memories and an aura of mystery. But this year, they were back! Found in the basement, on the shelf, and so the tradition returns. After a few shots someone always turns into Santa and the fun begins. Got to love family.

tiresome.

Trips to Detroit are always heavy with disbelief. How did this happen - how does it continue to happen? It was absolutely too cold to get out and wander so I drove the empty roads looking for something new but found nothing but old tires. As a kid I loved driving down I-94 watching the big tire cross the road. Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels on the radio. There was a football and a soccer team called The Wheels. It's not surprising in the Motor City but the vast amount of discarded tires on almost every block was disgusting. Come on Detroit! Let's make 2010 the year they stop talking about how bad the city is.
